I would never go near a clinic where Dr. Melvin Ashford works. As I understand it, Minnesota Women's Care was started with the cooperation of Dr. Ashford who now still practices there. Dr. Ashford performed a hysterectomy on me because I was experiencing pelvic pain. He said I had fibroids in my uterus, and my pain would go away when my uterus was removed. The pain did not go away; in fact it got worse. I suffered for years with this pain, sleeplessly waiting through the night for enough time to elapse until I could take a second dose of over the counter drugs. Doctors offered me narcotics, but fortunately, I never succumbed to their use. Finally, I discovered that the pain was actually coming from my lower spine which was being twisted by the position in which I slept. I stopped sleeping that way, and the pain went away. Unfortunately, the hysterectomy that Ashford had performed caused my bladder to prolapse, and now I am struggling every day to deal with discomfort and incontenence. Recently, I was offered a referral to MN Woman's Care. The ongoing trauma I experienced under Ashford's care made me look for services elsewhere.

I've been to Mayo clinic and have not received care like I have here. I am traveling an hour. It is so worth it the doctors make you feel so comfortable. You are listened to your questions are answered. You are not rushed in your appointment. And you feel like a person, not just like a piece of paper. I am so grateful to have found such a beautiful clinic to travel to. Thank you for all of the work that you do and for the best experience I have had.

I was having an issue, but traveling the next day. Women’s Care got me in for an exam on very short notice. The exam was thorough and all the staff were great. At one point in the visit, the gal explained there were running a bit behind, gave me a time frame to expect them back and brought me a bottle of water while I waited. Excellent customer service!

I was referred to Minnesota Women’s Care and looked forward to my visit. However, my initial consultation with Ilana Farb felt rushed. She walking into the room, and read information I had provided to the nurse and, when I inquired about hormone replacement therapy (HRT) options, she deferred my questions to another staff member. This individual could only discuss the financial aspects of HRT pellets and advised me to consult Ilana for medical details, which created confusion. During a follow-up telehealth appointment, there were significant delays by a half hour from when the appointment started. When Ilana joined, I expressed concerns about the limited scope of tests conducted, as I had expected a comprehensive functional medicine evaluation. She responded defensively, asserting that I hadn’t requested functional medicine services, despite not being present during my initial inquiry. Her combative demeanor made me uncomfortable, especially as a Black woman aware of the historical challenges our community faces in accessing equitable healthcare. After this experience, I scheduled an appointment with Rachel Snell. Rachel was attentive, compassionate, and provided clear guidance on each step of the HRT process, ensuring I felt informed and supported. I’m grateful for her genuine care and the resources available to receive such thoughtful services. I hope that Minnesota Women’s Care addresses the way Ilana Farb treats her patients, ensuring that moving forward, they feel seen, valued, and that they receive comprehensive information during their visits.
