I had my surgery April 2023. Officially the worse decision of my life. I am walking around with uneven eyelids and scars. My surgery looks like two different people performed it. One person for each eye. 1. Too much tissue removed from one eye. 2. Unsightly scars. 3. Lid crease issues. 4. Drooping of the upper eyelid with the eye that has more tissue. 5. Change in the shape of my eyes. 6. Suffering from dry eyes day and night. I have consulted four different surgeons now with two being oculofacial plastic surgeons to see if there is anything that can be done to improve my eyes. They all agree that something went wrong. Two surgeons told me that not ever plastic surgent out there can perform eyelid surgery well. That my mistake was going to a regular plastic surgent. For anything on your face, you need to see an oculofacial plastic surgent. That a lot of doctors lack the necessary skills to cut evenly and to take the eye health into consideration. Your face is the first thing people see. If you are reading this and are considering facial surgery, you really need to make sure you do your homework and see multiple doctors before deciding on one. There is a lot that can go wrong if you decide on a doctor that does not have the necessary skills. I could tell by day three that my eyes were not cut the same way and I asked and was repeatedly told they there are and just needed to heal. One scar was going sideways and the other straight down. The one that was going straight down is the one that had too much skin removed. All the way to 9 months the surgent kept saying that they looked the same but everyone else said that they did not. I asked another employee at the office how this could happen, and her response was “it happens”. That’s a scary response. How many other patients of theirs are running around with this type of damage. I apologize to anyone that this has happened to since my surgery. I should have posted this review sooner, but I was dealing with it too. At 9 months when I went in to talk to the surgent because I was unhappy with the results another surgent there recommended adding fat to the eye that had less skin. At that point I was desperate for a fix and agreed but ended up developing a chalazion on the bigger eye and had to postpone. Never suffered from these before. That gave me time to think about what was being recommended. They wanted to add fat to an area that did not have much skin to work with. It did not feel totally right to me but I’m not the expert here. A few months later when the chalazion went away I went back still feeling uneasy about what was being recommended and then they told me that the cost to correct/try to improve what went wrong had doubled and they wanted more money from me. You damage my face and now you want more money from me to try to fix it?? I never went back there again. I have before and after pics if anyone wants to see what I am talking about. I remember having to call because I had green stuff coming out of my eye a few days after the surgery and it ended up being an infection from the surgery and my vision was not normal for months. Both upper and lower eyelids look crazy. I am now dealing with dry eye issues every day. These are some of the reason you need to make sure you see a oculofacial plastic surgeon - After having previous unsuccessful eyelid surgery, your eyelid tissues may be somewhat compromised or scarred, and you may experience other significant symptoms such as blurry vision, eye pain, tearing, dry eyes, an inability to close the eyes, double vision, and/or problems with your normal blinking. I am currently dealing with some of these. Please make sure you see the right doctor for what you are looking for. Don’t make the same mistake I did.
